Saturday 23rd March

Saturday saw the first sail we have had for a couple of weeks after ‘sausage sizzle duty’ at the Apollo Bay Show last Saturday (thanks to all members who helped with this fundraiser and congratulations to the show committee on yet another successful event), and after a very windy Sunday race day where only a few hardy, but slightly foolish?, sailors headed out into ‘adventurous’ conditions for a sail.

The intrepid Tasmanian adventurer’s, ‘Boheme’ and ‘10 + 1’, lost none of their racing spirit whilst cruising the Bass Strait, with ‘Boheme’ leading the fleet from the start and she was not headed all day, with ’10 + 1’ and ‘Tumbleweed’ never far behind.

A vigorous west/north west of 15 – 18 knots, sometimes 20, were good sailing conditions for everybody, even Rip Ballinger in ‘Orange Juice’, a resurrected Sabre of John Marriner’s. Rip is only 12 years old and was out for 40 minutes before the race started and for the 1 ½ hours of racing in very trying conditions. This was a big effort! Congratulations, hope to see you out on the water more often.

Another impressive effort goes to Peter McTaggart in ‘Ashleigh’, better  known as “Croc”, who sailed solo around the course in his self built yacht. Also good to see Randal Fitz and Leszec back on the water in ‘Zappa’.

Of the Flying 15’s, Lisa and Pat in ‘Black Pearl’ were just in front of Matt and Bourney in ‘Miss Molly’, and had a tight tussle all day.

Some milestones in the club – while Gary was away cruising  he celebrated his 60th birthday. Lots of fun was had by all! Happy Birthday!

And on the 1st of April Bob and Pat Hansen celebrate their wedding anniversary. Congratulations!

And always remember….Life is good….come
