News Letter - April
2007
G’day everyone,
Here’s an update on what’s happening
around the club:
Hot Dog Stall
The Apollo Bay Music Festival is on again this weekend
and once again the sailing club members will be running
the Hot Dog Stall. By now you should all have received
the roster with your duty times on it. If the times
allocated to you are unsuitable, please organise your
own changes with other members. As this is our main
fundraiser for the year it is important that everyone
helps out. Russell has everything under control as
far as supplies go, but I’m sure he could do
with a hand on Friday afternoon to help set up the
stall. So if you can help out give him a call.
New Yngling
After Matt’s marathon effort driving to Sydney
and picking up the Yngling and delivering it back
to “The Bay” we now have a second Yngling.
The winter break will provide an ideal opportunity
to prepare it for the coming sailing season. I’m
sure this second Yngling will prove to be a valuable
asset to the club and help encourage new sailors out
on the water.
Model Boat Competition
All who were present at the Apollo Bay Sailing Club’s
inaugural Model Boat Competition last year will recall
the excitement of the young competitors as they faced
the challenging conditions of the day. So it’s
great to be able to say that plans are already well
in hand for the second Challenge. In the build up
to last year’s big day Matt & Geeks spent
many nights in the Otway Health men’s shed helping
an enthusiastic group of kids prepare their boats.
So if any members with some practical skills could
help out that would be very much appreciated. If you
can help talk to Matt or Geeks.
Clubrooms
Have you ever wondered why the clubrooms always look
so clean & tidy inside. Well, it’s because
Bob Hansen calls in every week and gives it a clean
up. So next time you see Bob say thanks for the great
job (which won’t be for a while as he is heading
overseas). Also if you have any gear stored in the
clubrooms could you please take it home.
Four Winds Marine
Four Winds Marine in Geelong are our latest members.
They offer a great range of boat stuff and lots of
helpful advice re paints, antifouling etc., also attractive
discounts to club members. Just in case you have forgotten,
they are the co-sponsors, with Bill Gross, in the
“Fishmongers Trophy”.
April Dancer
If anyone is interested in purchasing a Flying Fifteen
(April Dancer) complete with galvanised trailer, I’m
happy to swap it for $1500, just give me a call on
52374227.
New Committee
Some of the committee office-bearers have said they
will not be available to serve in their respective
capacities on the committee for the coming season.
Sandra plans to be in Paris, and I hope to do some
travelling closer to home. So please give some thought
to helping out on the committee, after all –
no committee, no club!
Last Sail For Season
April 28th is our last sailing day for the season,
and as usual we will be having an end of season get-together,
bbq, drinks, bragging…. that sort or thing.
Where is it at? Well we’re not sure yet, but
you will be informed.
Blast from the past
Many members will remember Jonathon Day and his ever
enthusiastic association with the club. Jonathon dropped
around home recently for a chat and a catch up on
old times. It seems his passion for boats hasn’t
waned. He still has his 7.8 metre rigid inflatable
that he had in “the Bay” but he is also
the proud owner of Ocean Explorer, a 270 tonne twin
hulled ocean going “ship”.
Bob ups the a’nte
Bob Knowles is interested in pursuing sailing lessons
in Geelong. Anyone else interested in going, contact
Bob.
Cheers
John
