Tell Tales 12th November 2005

The Learn To Sail program started in blustery w/nw and cold conditions. Matt and Geekie, with a cast of helpers, ran a fantastic first day. Also out on the water was the Commodore taking some adults out to try their hand at sailing.

In the afternoon, the main race was a fast and furious affair with squalls of 20/25 knots coming through the fleet, which made for some exciting sailing. Shayne Lindsey in his lazer won the start, with Stewie and Geeks not far behind followed by the rest of the fleet.

After the first mark, it was Geeks & Stewie under pressure from the Flying Fifteen’s and the Smith family in In The Blue, but believe me all eyes were on the first timers, Dave and Scotty, on the big Cat. The Cat’s fast, and appears from nowhere when you least expect it. They both did a fantastic job to finish the race after four capsizes in the trying conditions. Also good to see April Dancer out on the water with Cooky and Fezza staying close to the land, trying out their new boat.

Back to the race, Miss Molly went prawn fishing at one stage with their spinnaker - alas no prawns! The keel boats tussled each other all day, with the fishmonger taking the honours for most of the day. The end results though gave Captain Col and Doug a win for the day.

Results:
Fishmongers Club handicap Yardstick
1st Miss Molly Miss Molly Windswept
2nd Tumbleweed In The Blue NYAWB
3rd NYAWB Tumbleweed One More Time

Next week: No Learn To Sail program due to Crayfish Cup regatta.
Crayfish Cup first race starts at 13.00, with briefing at
12.00. Second race to follow.
Sunday race starts at 10.00 with briefing at 9.00.

The Bay Leaf “knuckle head aware” went to Peter Geekie who, when setting the course, got his ABC mixed up.
Down to prep class, Peter!

Life is good, be happy, come sailing.
