Plain-English summary
Great Ocean Road Guide (this site) is a publicly-readable editorial guide. We don't ask you to sign up for anything, we don't sell anything, and we don't share your data with third parties beyond the analytics provider listed below.
What we collect
We use Google Analytics 4 to count page views and understand which pages travellers find useful. GA4 collects:
- Pages you visit on this site
- How long you spend on each page
- Approximate location (country / city) derived from IP — your IP itself is not stored
- Device type, browser, screen size
- The site or search you came from (referrer)
Google Analytics drops first-party cookies (_ga, _ga_*) on your device to recognise return visits. These expire after 24 months.
What we do not collect
- We do not run ads or work with advertising networks.
- We do not have a mailing list, contact forms, or accounts — there's nothing to sign up for.
- We do not use Facebook Pixel, TikTok Pixel, or other social tracking.
- We do not collect data from minors knowingly. The site is suitable for general audiences but not directed at children under 13.
Cookies
First-party Google Analytics cookies (listed above) are the only cookies we set. You can opt out by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out browser add-on, by enabling browser-level Do Not Track, or by blocking third-party cookies in your browser settings.
Server logs
Our hosting provider (Netlify) keeps standard web-server logs (IP address, requested URL, user agent, timestamp) for security and abuse prevention. These logs are retained for up to 30 days and are not used for marketing.
Your data rights
If you're in Australia (Privacy Act 1988), the EU (GDPR) or the UK (UK GDPR), you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection over personal data we hold about you. Email [email protected] with the subject line "Privacy request" and we'll respond within 30 days.
Children
We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 in line with COPPA, Australia's Online Safety Act, and equivalent regional laws. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our data practices change. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent change. Material changes will also be flagged on the homepage.
