Anglesea Main Beach
Foreshore Β· Town beach
The town's main beach, patrolled in summer (late Nov to Easter, 10amβ5pm). Gentle sand-bottom waves, family-friendly. Walking distance from accommodation.
The Surf Coast's most family-friendly beach plus the calm river mouth for toddlers, Pt Roadknight surf at the southern end, and quieter coves nearby.
Anglesea sits where the Anglesea River meets the Southern Ocean. That geography produces two distinct swimming environments within walking distance of each other β the main bay beach (gentle waves, patrolled in summer, family-friendly) and the protected river mouth (calm sheltered water, ideal for very young children).
Surfers head south to Pt Roadknight, the local intermediate-friendly point break. The full Surf Coast Walk passes through Anglesea, opening up additional cliff-top beach access at Smiths Beach and beyond. Compared to Lorne or Apollo Bay, Anglesea's beach scene is more family-focused and less surf-tourism-driven β a fit for travellers prioritising swimming over photography.
