Port Campbell restaurants & cafés

A small main strip with surprisingly good food — sit-down dinner at Wreck Diver, casual harbour views at 12 Rocks, breakfast at Forage.

The food story

A small town with surprisingly serious food

Port Campbell has roughly six restaurants and cafés clustered on or just behind Lord Street — the main road through town. For a population of 600, that's a lot. The town's food scene runs on the predictable Great Ocean Road tourism cycle: busy in summer (when reservations matter), comfortable through autumn and spring, and a sleepy slowdown in winter when several places drop to limited hours.

The standouts are the Wreck Diver Restaurant inside the Best Western (proper sit-down dinner with a thoughtful menu) and 12 Rocks Beach Bar Cafe (casual all-day with the best harbour view in town). For breakfast, Forage on the Foreshore is the early-opening go-to. The Port Campbell Hotel handles every other meal need with reliable counter food and a public bar.

Don't expect Apollo Bay-level depth — there's no Italian dinner option to match La Bimba, and there's no pizza specialist to match Pizza Pizza. Port Campbell's food is sufficient rather than exceptional. The trade-off is being twelve minutes from the Twelve Apostles, which most travellers happily accept.

Port Campbell restaurants FAQs

What are the best restaurants in Port Campbell?
Wreck Diver Restaurant at the Best Western (proper sit-down dinner option), 12 Rocks Beach Bar Cafe (casual all-day, harbour views), Forage on the Foreshore (breakfast and brunch), and the Port Campbell Hotel (counter meals, pub atmosphere). Six or seven serious options on a small main street — book ahead in summer.
Where can you get fresh seafood in Port Campbell?
12 Rocks does excellent fish and chips and seafood baskets with proper view of the harbour. Wreck Diver has plated seafood mains. The local seafood scene isn't on the same scale as Apollo Bay's Co-op (no professional fishing fleet here) but the smaller harbour does land a daily catch — ask what's local before ordering.
Do you need to book restaurants in Port Campbell?
In summer (December–February), Easter, and any school holidays — yes, book 1–2 days ahead for Wreck Diver and 12 Rocks at dinner. Off-peak weekdays you can usually walk in. The Port Campbell Hotel always has counter dining available without booking.
Where can you get breakfast in Port Campbell?
Forage on the Foreshore is the breakfast standout — opens early, full breakfast menu, decent coffee. 12 Rocks does brunch from later in the morning. Black Bear Café for a smaller-scale coffee-and-pastry option. Apollo Bay Bakery (in Apollo Bay, 60 min east) is the better destination if you're driving through early.
What's open early in Port Campbell?
Forage on the Foreshore opens by 7am most days for travellers heading out for sunrise at the Twelve Apostles. The 24-hour United fuel station has snacks and basic coffee from a vending machine. Otherwise, plan to grab provisions the night before if you're up before 7am.
Are there pubs in Port Campbell?
Yes — Port Campbell Hotel is the main pub. Counter meals, public bar, weekend live music in summer. Family-friendly bistro section with kids' menu. Reliable, never special — useful when other options are booked.
Is there fine dining in Port Campbell?
Not strictly fine dining, but Wreck Diver Restaurant at the Best Western is the proper sit-down option in town with table service, a thought-out wine list, and modern Australian mains. For genuinely fine dining you'd drive 60 minutes east to Chris's Beacon Point in Apollo Bay or 30 minutes west toward Warrnambool's regional dining scene.
